The First Aid at Work qualification (FAW)

This is the highest workplace First Aid qualification you can receive.  The course has been designed to meet the requirements of the HSE First Aid at Work regulations.  The course includes scenario training for several workplace First Aid incidents providing the learner with the hands-on skills required to manage and take control of First Aid at their organisation.

Course Content

• Understand the role and responsibilities of the first aider
• Assess an emergency situation safely
• Provide first aid for a casualty who is unresponsive and breathing normally
• Provide first aid for a casualty who is suffering a seizure
• Provide first aid for a casualty who is unresponsive and not breathing normally
• Place AED pads correctly
• Provide first aid to a casualty who is suffering from shock
• Provide first aid to a casualty with external bleeding
• Manage a casualty with a minor injury
• Recognise a casualty who is choking
• Conduct a secondary survey
• Administer first aid to a casualty with injuries to bones, muscles and joints
• Administer first aid to a casualty with suspected head and spinal injuries
• Administer first aid to a casualty with suspected chest injuries
• Administer first aid to a casualty with burns and scalds
• Explain the factors that affect the severity of burns and scalds
• Administer first aid to a casualty with an eye injury
• Administer first aid to a casualty with sudden poisoning
• Administer first aid to a casualty with anaphylaxis
• Provide first aid to a casualty with suspected major illness
